Hello Microsoft? We’re not ready for XP

Author: JT Smith

Kelly McNeill writes “Microsoft is out of touch with reality. The world is not ready for Microsoft Office XP and Windows XP as in most offices, Windows 2000 hasn’t even been deployed yet. It’s presumptuous for Microsoft to assume that the majority of businesses and users are running the latest Microsoft Windows OS and Office. Similarly, it is an insult to expect that these businesses have the deep pockets to make such an upgrade. The XP strategy is too aggressive, and it will hurt businesses, manufacturers and retailers alike.”

Fallacies of a secure and private Internet

Author: JT Smith

Kelly McNeill writes “No matter what organization you are dealing with online, including the government, consumers cannot and should not realistically expect a 100 percent secure and private experience anywhere. Just like antiviral software that becomes obsolete with each new virus or worm released, security measures are only effective as long as no new threats are posed or underlying flaws uncovered. As long as the potential payoff exists, however, there will be morally challenged members of society trying to identify and exploit such weaknesses. And even people with the best of intentions may carelessly allow such pursuits to succeed.”
