New IIS worm: Code Red II

WormyGuy writes “There is a new IIS worm on the loose named Code Red II. It makes use of the same vulnerability as the earlier Code Red worms but the payload is different. This one leaves a number of backdoors in the systems. The best analyses of it are from SecurityFocus and eEye. The SecurityFocus ARIS system has some nice graphs of the worm growth. Discussion about the worm is ongoing in the incidents mailing list.”

Mueller noncommittal on Carnivore

“FBI Director Robert Mueller has refused to commit to an independent review of the agency’s Carnivore surveillance system. During an appearance before the Senate Judiciary committee on Tuesday, Mueller said he couldn’t promise another look at the controversial technology, which the FBI has renamed DCS1000. The Senate later confirmed Mueller in a 98-0 vote.”

Deal boosts IBM’s grid computing push
