Open Source Development Lab opens facility near Tokyo

announced the establishment of a second facility outside Tokyo.
The new lab, in addition to a facility near Portland, Ore., will increase OSDL’s ability to enable projects that expand the enterprise and
carrier-class functionality of Linux and Linux-based software.

Java v.p. leaving Sun

LinuxGram reports that “George Paolini, the Java VP reportedly responsible for Sun’s feeble Sun ONE retort to Microsoft’s
.NET scheme and the evangelist whose oversight of the so-called Java Community Process, Sun’s
quasi Java standardization process, has not proven particularly conciliatory toward Java licensees, is
leaving the company at the end of Java One next week.”

IBM delivers Itanium-based systems for supercomputer

ItaniumTM-based eServer and IntelliStation workstations which will form a
new Linux supercluster at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications
(NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Capable of 1 trillion
calculations per second, a cluster of 160 new IBM Itanium-based systems will
be the most powerful Linux supercluster in academia.
