Is Open Source for you?

Author: JT Smith

From Software Development Magazine: “Apache, Cocoon and Linux aren’t just useful programs, they’re best-of-breed. Some of the
more intemperate free software boosters, intoxicated by this success, claim that proprietary
software is obsolete and that it’s immoral to keep your source code secret. Well, maybe.”

Listar’s Trish Lynch speaks up

Author: JT Smith

tummy.com announces KRUD 6.2 updated to May 2001

Author: JT Smith

Evelyn Mitchell writes: “Press Release: tummy.com, ltd. announces KRUD Linux 6.2 updated to May 2001.”

Fort Collins, Colorado — May 16, 2001 —

Editorial Summary

  • KRUD, the freshest Red Hat(r) based Linux(r) distribution, is now
available in 6.2 updated to May 2001
  • KRUD, Kevin’s Red Hat Uber Distribution, is updated once a month,
    available by subscription.

tummy.com, ltd., a Linux Consulting company specializing in System
Administration, Security and Distributions, today announced the availability
of KRUD 6.2 updated for May 2001.

This provides a Red Hat 6.2-like system which installs from the CD with the
errata published before the beginning of May applied.

KRUD, Kevin’s Red Hat Uber Distribution is released every month. It combines
security and convenience by helping you update your system with the latest
errata and software updates. For Red Hat Linux users, it is an easy way to
keep your systems up to date.

It is targeted at users who are not able to update to a newer release
of Red Hat or KRUD Linux.

KRUD 6.2 for May brings our last regular 6.2 version, 20001001, in
line with our 7.0 version, by combining all of the updates since October
in one convenient distribution.

This marks the first issue of our expanded KRUD version tracking. We
will be tracking not only the current Red Hat(r) versions, but also
the most popular older versions, 6.2 and 7.0. KRUD has been shipping
monthly since July 1999.

In addition to KRUD Linux, tummy.com, ltd. provides System Administration
services, Security Consulting, Qmail Consulting and Network Administration.

“KRUD 6.2 fills a need for convenient updating of production systems.” said
Evelyn Mitchell, CEO of tummy.com, ltd. “KRUD continues to provide busy
System Administrators with the tools they need to get the job done.”

KRUD 7.1 is set for release on June 1, 2001. More information about
KRUD, including ordering, is at http://www.tummy.com/krud/

The Cheese worm: A welcome helper for Linux?

Author: JT Smith

ZDNET.co.uk: “System administrators, worldwide reported signs on Wednesday that
another self-spreading program — or worm — had started to infect
Linux systems.

This worm appears to be different, however. Dubbed the Cheese
worm, the program is basically a self-spreading patch. It enters
servers that have already been compromised by a previous bit of
malicious code — the 3-month-old 1i0n worm — and closes the
back door behind it, adding security to the system.”
