Introducing the Open Source Reader

Author: JT Smith

Linux Journal has a short item about a publication called the Open Source Reader. “To make the task of understanding open source easier for a group of CS students, I put these key readings together into an easy to read, print and
distribute package (an 80-page PDF book), called The Open Source Reader. Now, I want to share this compilation with everyone and pay back a
little to the Open Source community I enjoy so much. To download The Open Source Reader, go to www.csaszar.org/interesting.”

Author: JT Smith

An anonymous reader tells us about this story, “Linux, like the Internet, exists beyond the United States, Western Europe, and industrialized parts of Asia. story is at ITWorld.com.

Torvalds: A boy and his computer

Author: JT Smith

Salon.com reviews the new Linus Torvalds autobiography, “Just for Fun: The Story of an Accidental Revolutionary.” From the review, “If I wanted more from “Just for Fun,” perhaps it’s because my
standards are too high, after four years of covering free software
and pondering the significance of Linus Torvalds in a world
packed with greedy corporations and fierce wars over intellectual
property. Or maybe there’s a less respectable explanation. It could
be that I’m just jealous of coauthor Diamond. He got to spend a
year drinking beer and sitting in hot tubs with Linus.”
