Cell phone jammers defy law

Author: JT Smith

At some point, almost everyone wishes there was a way to silence the incessant ringing of cell phones in public spaces. SilverStream and Qbizm Technologies announce a worldwide technology alliance partnership

Author: JT Smith

Prague – 20 March 2001 – SilverStream Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: SSSW), The eBusiness Platform Company, and Qbizm Technologies, Inc. have formed a worldwide Technology Alliance Partnership between the J2EE-based SilverStream Application Server and the HyperQbs add-on middle-ware. The HyperQbs framework can now also introduce its “dynamic face†software component technology to users of the J2EE-based SilverStream Application Server.

This collaboration will enable system integrators and software-houses to work more effectively, using components containing a reusable presentation logic layer. This layer enables the easy prototyping of Internet applications, as well as offering an easy-to-survey architecture and independence of user interface device. The “dynamic face†concept is mainly applied to m-commerce, allowing users to access any application from various devices requiring a different functionality. The SilverStream Application Server provides a robust, reliable, and scalable platform for any web application extension.

“Users of the SilverStream Application Server have been using the component model defined in the J2EE specification. The Qbizm Technologies’ technology enables users to extend the functionality of their solutions by adding a “dynamic face†to their existing components,†said Petr Brnak, SilverStream Managing Director in the Czech Republic.

“SilverStream is an important partner for us from the ranks of application server suppliers, with a strong base in extended enterprise solutions, where the effectiveness of the reusable component approach is probably most significant,†said Peter K. Ulrich, CEO of Qbizm Technologies, Inc.

The HyperQbs framework v2 Beta 2.0 configured for the SilverStream Application Server is available free of charge at http://www.hyperqbs.org.

Linux Mandrake – licq problems

Author: JT Smith

“Versions of Licq prior to 1.0.3 have a vulnerability involving the way Licq parses received URLs. The received URLs are passed to the web browser without any sanity checking by using the system() function. Because of the lack of checks on the URL, remote attackers can pipe other commands with the sent URLs causing the client to unwillingly execute arbitrary commands. The URL parsing code has been fixed in the most recent 1.0.3 version.” Full details at Help Net Security.
