KOffice 1.1 Release Plan
====================

The following is the outline for our KOffice 1.1 release schedule.

We aim for the following improvements among others: 

- Many features added to KSpread, KPresenter and KIllustrator 
- Rewrite of KWord using Qt's richtext engine 
- Much improved mathematical formula support 
- Addition of Kivio (Flowcharting program) 
- Improvements to the filters, especially the MSOffice import filters 
- [Addition of Krayon ? What about Kugar, Rekall ?]

KOffice 1.1 will be released independent from KDE 2.2.

KOffice is temporarily frozen : bugfix commits only. 

Wednesday April 18

Tarballs are made out of KOffice, for KOffice 1.1 Beta 1
They are made public immediately, and given to packagers for creation
of binary packages. KOffice is open for commits again.

Announce KOffice 1.1 Beta 1.

Gateway turning off Net appliances?

ZDNet News reports that Gateway is reconsidering its entry into the Internet appliance market. This may include the cancellation of the company’s proposed Web tablet, a wireless touch pad device. Gateway’s consumer division heads now believe “that most standalone Internet appliances are overpriced and underpowered,” and have decided that their market value at this time is “questionable.” While not mentioned within this report, the tablet and other proposed Gateway devices were built to run on embedded versions of Linux.

Palm releases latest low-end model

Handheld giant Palm, Inc. released its replacement for the Palm IIIxe on Tuesday. The new m105 sports 8MB of storage memory, and a serial cradle for easy computer/handheld sync operations. The units sell for $199 MSRP. CNET News.com has the full story.

Qwest recalls cell phones exceeding radiation limit

“Qwest Communications International is recalling 11,000 cell phones because some of the units could emit radiation that exceeds federal standards, according to a report.” Full report at CNET News.com.

‘Hackers’ get credit card data from Amazon’s Bibliofind.com

IDG reports that crackers have stolen roughly 98,000 customer records, including credit card numbers, from rare book seller and Amazon subsidiary Bibliofind.com. Intruders had access to customer records from October 2000 through February 2001.

Python Software Foundation launched

Recipes wanted for new Python Cookbook
