New Linux kernel still not part of business desktop plans

Author: JT Smith

ComputerWorld has more on LinuxWorld: “The release of the new 2.4
kernel of the Linux operating system won praise from IT managers. But that won’t win Linux a place in their
desktop deployment plans.

Bob Ruddy, owner of Cycle.org Inc., a Web hosting and networking firm in Doylestown, Pa., said the new
expanded kernel on its own won’t convince many smaller and midsize companies to make the jump from

and MP3 players are built goes too far to
protect the rights of business at the expense
of computer owners, privacy advocates say.

The plan’s developers … dismiss
the concerns. They say
critics fundamentally
misunderstand the
technology, which can
prevent songs or
movies from being copied without permission.”
