“Utilizing the 2.2.17 kernel, Vector Linux sports i586 optimizations and a small footprint (how does 170MB fully installed sound?). As an added bonus Vector Linux can use just about any package format (rpm, deb, slp, etc.). Sounds good so far, but is it for real?””

A TechWeb story says Sun Microsystems is mostly missing from Linux’s next frontier, the enterprise. “The server powerhouse has been ambiguous and
ambivalent about Linux, observers said. To date, Sun has
pledged to support the GNOME graphical user interface
and released StarOffice code to the masses, and so on … Sun, however, has stopped
short of making Linux available on its machines.”

From Linux Journal: “I decided to see whether I could successfully install Windows 2000 Professional on a computer that had been running Linux quite nicely,
thank you, for nearly four years. I moved all my data off Lothlorien, my well-loved but somewhat elderly Linux-powered PII-400,
wiped out Linux and installed Windows 2000 Professional. I mean, I tried to.”

LinuxPR: The Linux Professional Institute (LPI)
today announced the start of the next development phase in its intermediate
Level 2 Linux certification program.

LPI invites intermediate and advanced Linux system administrators to
participate in a Job Analysis Survey for the Level 2 program. This survey, in
keeping with standard psychometric practice, is designed to assist LPI to
determine the necessary tasks to be tested by its intermediate-level Linux
administration exams.

ZDNet has a column taking issue with Linux being, as some have called, a “disruptive technology.” Says the column, “Linux plays by a different set of rules, yet it is attracting many conventional players anyway. To me, this is what’s truly disruptive.”
