Press release at LinuxPR: “”Linux for beginners” course is designed for busy professionals with no

Internet World: Does that mean you’ll pursue that? Wetherell: Yes, we will. Coming up in the first quarter of 2001.”

CNN reports that independent music giant TVT Records has withdrawn its $1.5 billion lawsuit against Napster. TVT believes it has more to gain by dropping the lawsuit against the music sharing service in favor of supporting the Napster-Bertelsmann AG alliance.

LWN.net posts: “WireX discovered a potential temporary file race condition in the way
that squid sends out email messages notifying the administrator about
updating the program. This could lead to arbitrary files to get
overwritten.”

New Planet Software has released the beta versions of its Code Crusader and Code Medic Linux software development programs. The new versions of the programs are released as limited betas.

From a press release at LinuxPR: ” Today, SuSE Linux, the international

system (OS), announced the February 12th availability of the SuSE

LWN.net posts a Debian security advisory message for PHP4. “It is possible to specify PHP directives on a
per-directory basis which leads to a remote attacker crafting an HTTP
request that would cause the next page to be served with the wrong
values for these directives. Also even if PHP is installed, it can be
activated and deactivated on a per-directory or per-virtual host basis
using the “engine=on” or “engine=off” directive.”

From Debian.org: “Version 1.0 of the Telemetry Box Distribution has finally been released. The Tbox distribution is a Debian GNU/Linux ‘potato’ based custom Linux version for remote
monitoring and maintenance of networks.

A telemetry box allows remote management and diagnostics. It uses a customized version of netsaint to gather data. Netsaint has been enhanced so that the
configuration is possible via the Tbox Webinterface through SQL structures. Netsaint logs into a SQL table. Tools on the Tbox can then display the data in a variety of
ways (graphs or reports).”

ZDNet eWEEK reports on Novell’s efforts to reverse declining sales and plummeting profits. Part of the new strategy includes new network management software products for Linux platforms.
