The European Union is making big changes to cybersecurity requirements with its proposed Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). You may have heard about the CRA’s potential impact on the open source ecosystem. But what does the Cyber Resilience Act mean for you? This post is an introduction to the Act and explains how it may affect the open source maintainers and developer community. Note that this post is based on a draft of the CRA from September 15, 2022. The Act is still in a draft stage and getting feedback, and its provisions may differ before it is passed into law.

We’re less than 2 weeks away from the 12th annual Open Source Summit Europe, the premier European conference to showcase the open source community’s expertise and innovation. This year’s event will take place in Bilbao, Spain September 19-21, with co-located events held September 17-18.

Introduction The US Federal Government's recent Request for Information (RFI) on Open Source Software Security (announced by the US White House) is a noteworthy development for open source software (OSS). This RFI originated from the Open-Source Software Security Initiative (OS3I) interagency working group created to improve OSS security. This blog post aims to provide a brief overview of the RFI.

Shortly before SIGGRAPH 2023, the Alliance for OpenUSD (AOUSD) was established, marking a significant development in the 3D technology sector. The alliance includes prominent members like Pixar, Adobe, Apple, Autodesk, and NVIDIA, focusing on standardizing and furthering OpenUSD 3D data specifications and technologies. This collaboration aims to enable 3D interoperability to better enable 3D content creation workflows, industrial digitalization, and graphics experiences such as spatial computing.
