October 21, 2005 – St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada – Today Greyfirst Corp., a leader in semantic web technologies, released the latest version of Celtx, the open source pre-production software tool for creating video, film and TV content. Aimed at film and video makers, Celtx lets users write scripts, perform breakdowns, plan productions and collaborate with others online.

Further leveraging the technologies in Firefox, this new version of Celtx introduces Document Tabs. Users can now view their Script, Title Page, and Production Database as separate documents. The newest feature is a Web Tab that can be used to conduct research or add information to the Production Database.

“The Web Research tab, which is accessible while in the application, is the first step towards the introduction of even more story development tools”, Mark Kennedy, Greyfirst’s co-founder and CEO stated. “We will be adding even more amazing capabilities very soon.”

Research material, including any images, sound files, video clips, and text can be dragged and dropped into the Celtx database where they can be associated with specific script items, saved for future reference, or re-purposed for future projects. The resulting field of information can be used to help pre-visualize a project, provide interesting background for the film and video that can be shared with others or used to improve the search rankings of any projects posted online using the Celtx publishing service.

Other core features of Celtx include:
• Writing, importing, editing and publishing scripts using standard industry formatting
• Support for adding media – including sound files, video clips and digital pictures
• Powerful collaboration features, allowing team members to work together over the Internet
• Adherence to open standards, ensuring users have unfettered access to their data

Built on top of the award winning Firefox technologies, Celtx is an open standards software application. The open source nature of Celtx has encouraged users to volunteer their efforts and translate the application into their own language. With the recent release of a Japanese version, Celtx is now offered in 15 languages, making the application available to dedicated users located in over 60 countries around the globe.

The Technology
Celtx is built using Firefox’s XUL Mozilla application framework and
runs “inside” the Mozilla Firefox browser. Celtx works on all major
operating systems – Mac, Linux and Windows. The application uses a
semantic web compliant RDF database and XML file formatting.

Availability
The Celtx software application, currently in beta (version 0.9.4), is
available for free under an open source license from the Celtx
website. www.celtx.com
Greyfirst is also developing web services to enhance the Celtx
application, which will be made available for sale at a later date.
