The Open Source Initiative, the non-profit corporation
that oversees the Open Source Definition and use of the “OSI Certified”
trademark, has added two new board members — developer-activist Russ Nelson and Red Hat vice president Michael
Tiemann
— as president and vice president, respectively. Sun Microsystems open source evangelist Danese Cooper will continue as secretary/treasurer.

In addition, OSI
plans extend its activities beyond its principal charter of license approval
by expanding the board and embarking on an educational mission.

Nelson said that number of board members will increase from five to nine, with plans to add some board members from outside the United States as a
reflection of the rapid global participation in and adoption of open source.
