CACAO JVM 0.91 released under GPL

TWISTI writes “CACAO is a JIT compiler for Java. The CACAO project started as a research JavaVM to explore new implementation techniques. The first version for the Alpha was released in February 1997 as a binary. After 1998 the development nearly stopped. Since two years we are actively working on CACAO again and are proud to announce the first source release under the GPL. CACAO is still under development and there are still some steps to version 1.0 left. But it is already very usable for most applications (only preliminary AWT support). CACAO uses the GNU classpath and the Boehm-Demers-Weiser garbage collector. Currently CACAO is able to run on Alpha, MIPS (64-bit), PowerPC (32-bit), x86 and x86-64 architectures. Other architectures and
optimizations like inlining and linear scan register allocation are under development.”
