SGI to discontinue MIPS/IRIX line

17
SGI, the computer manufacturer famed for its high-end graphics workstations, will discontinue its MIPS/IRIX line at the end of the year. IRIX is SGI’s in-house Unix derivate. MIPS/IRIX systems were first presented in 1988 and have since then featured in numerous server and workstation systems. Between 1992 and 1998 SGI owned a processor manufacturer that was a leading-edge developer of RISC CPUs.
