Linux: Find Out If a Website Powered By Apache Is Using Gzip or Deflate Support To Compress Files

When content is compressed, downloads are faster because the files are smaller—in many cases, less than a quarter the size of the original. This is very useful for JavaScript and CSS files (including html), faster downloads translates into faster rendering of web pages for end-user. But, how do I find out if a web-page is gzipped or compressed using Unix command line utility called curl? How do I make sure mod_deflate or mod_gzip is working under Apache web server?

Learning To Love Learning Linux

As 2015 comes to a close, I have come to realize a great truth: the best thing I ever did was to dump Windows and switch completely to Linux. I speak from my own experience but I also speak for many of my EzeeLinux clients who feel the same way. Of course, your mileage may very.  This article is not intended to sell you on Linux. Chances are good that if you’re reading this you already know about Linux and you may be using it every day. This article is for those who can’t seem to let go of Windows or Mac and are hanging on to those proprietary OS’s out of habit or because you’re not quite comfortable putting your entire computing life into the Linux space. The LibreOffice devs need more than just the regular reports it gets from the community to further improve the usability and interface of the office suites. Juniper Warns of Spying Code in Firewalls

juniper-netscreen-5200-2-100634071-primary.idgeJuniper, a major manufacturer of networking equipment, said on Thursday it found spying code planted in certain models of its firewalls, an alarming discovery that echoes of state-sponsored tampering.

The affected products are those running ScreenOS, one of Juniper’s operating systems that runs on a range of appliances that act as firewalls and enable VPNs. ScreenOS versions 6.2.0r15 through 6.2.0r18 and 6.3.0r12 through 6.3.0r20 are vulnerable, according to an advisory.

CentOS / RHEL: Install iftop To Display Bandwidth Usage Per interface By Host

Want to find what is using all of your bandwidth on Linux server? Try iftop tool. This command listens to network traffic on a given interface (such as eth0 or eth1), and shows a table of current bandwidth usage by pairs of hosts. iftop must be run with sufficient permissions (usually as root user) to monitor all network traffic on the interface. You can monitor bandwidth usage in a real time on RHEL or CentOS Linux based server.
