NeTraverse Win4Lin 3.0 review

Author: JT Smith

“NeTraverse Win4Lin 3.0 is a program that allows you to install and run Windows 95/98 under Linux. With Windows up and running (from within Linux) you can
easily add all your favorite Windows applications just like you would with a regular installation of Windows. Win4Lin 3.0 is truly a great product. The ability to connect to Exchange Servers using Outlook along with the ability to use VPN from within Win4Lin is exactly
what I have been dreaming of for a very long time.” Read the full review at Linux-World Danmark.

Caldera chief Ransom Love hits back at
free software founder Richard Stallman, denying that he is a ‘greedy
capitalist’ or a ‘parasite.’

‘I am not a greedy capitalist. I am only a businessman. I just do my job. I’m not
quite sure whether you can call this parasitic. I am not a parasite,’ Caldera
chief executive Ransom Love told ZDNet in Munich, Germany over the
weekend. Love was defending himself and the open source movement against

Compaq throws axe into sea

Author: JT Smith

The Inquirer: “A disillusioned soul at the Big Q has sent us the June 12th memo of CEO Mike
Capellas which, he says, promises the structure of his firm will alter so radically that it won’t
resemble anything like the Compaq of one year ago, never mind five.

Capellas has given himself a deadline of 180 days and set aside some money for
acquisitions, as well as repositioning Q as a solutions and services company. We expect
getting rid of the Alpha platform (see separate story) is part of that “up drawbridge” mentality.
Mike C won’t use 10 words where 3,390 will do, so do sit down before you start to read on.”

Virtual PC for Windows? No, it’s not quite like selling ice cubes to penguins. As ZDnet’s Stephan Somogyi explains, the once Mac-exclusive software is now available for Windows users who need (or just want) to run more than one operating system at a time. Somogyi used his review copy of Virtual PC to install Mandrake 8.0, and reports that everything worked wonderfully.
