SDN Changing the Way We Network

sdn-control-100624422-primary.idgeSDN’s impact is profoundly changing the way users operate their networks. Databases and distributed systems can now participate in networking, and workloads can be segmented for scale, participants at the 2016 Open Networking Summit said here this week. Network management is simplified, and application interactions are more intuitive and network-aware.

Despite the progress to date in SDN, there’s more to come, the panelists agreed. Applications will take on more of the network configuration duties through policy, while SDN technologies will become thinner and lighter, and offer more variety in the way they abstract the physical infrastructure.

kaos1KaOS is a specialty Linux rolling distribution focused on the KDE desktop. I have tested the latest release on several of my systems, with mixed results.

KaOS Linux is an unusual case in the world of Linux distributions. First, because it is not derived from any other distribution; second, because it is so tightly focused on the KDE desktop; and third, because it is a rolling distribution. When you put those three things together, it makes it interesting enough for me to keep KaOS Linux loaded on one or two of my laptops.

The KaOS developers recently announced the availability of a new stable ISO image. Because KaOS is a rolling distribution, it is not necessary to reinstall an existing system when a new image is released; simply making sure that you keep up with the official updates is sufficient.
