Caldera: Tomcat unauthorized access vulnerability

Author: JT Smith

From LinuxSecurity.com: “There are several security problems with Jakarta-Tomcat, a Java
Servlet Engine, shipped as part of OpenLinux 3.1 Server. Several
vulnerabilities allowed attackers to view files in the system.
A second problem allowed so-called cross-site scripting, where
a hostile Web server can feed JavaScript or other code to a web
browser, making it appear to originate from the server running

When Microsoft takes aim, whole industries take cover

Author: JT Smith

A column at TheStreet.com talks about Microsoft going after the embedded market and finding Linux and Palm in the way.

“Linux has been a bugaboo and boon to Microsoft
for several years. On the one hand, the
open-system movement has threatened Microsoft
as techies flocked to the technology, which they
hoped would break the monopolist’s back. On the
other hand, Linux was one way Microsoft could
argue that it had legitimate competition. Linux, in
other words, simultaneously was a threat and an
antitrust suit negotiating point.”

GNOME 1.4.1 beta1 released

Author: JT Smith

The first point release of the GNOME 1.4 platform is now in beta1. This
is a first step towards a 1.4.1 release which will be out in 4-6 weeks
if all goes well. Since this is the stable platform we have not focused
on releasing new technology this time. The release contains many updated
packages since the 1.4 release this spring and will make sure the users
have a nice place to do their work while waiting for 2.0.

The packages that have been updated are too numerous to mention here,
but it's all well worth a try.

The fist beta will last around two weeks and then there will be a new
beta (or release candidate if no big problems show up) which will last
for another week or two before the final release.

Please report any problems in the core packages to

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/

Bugs in packages not found in bugzilla.gnome.org should be reported to
their respective maintainers and the bug tracking systems used by these
teams.

The bits are at:

Have fun...
