Linux Foundation Adds Embedded, Cloud Computing Members

The Linux Foundation has extended its partner network further this week with the addition of BearingPoint GmbH,Daynix, Linaro Limited and Systena, who will add to the open source consortium’s strengths in cloud computing, Internet of Things technology, Linux-based embedded automotive computers and more.

As the official announcement details, each of these new members of the Linux Foundation, a nonprofit consortium focused on promoting Linux and open source software, will help to expand the organization’s reach to several industries and segments of the channel across the world.

Linux Will Not Become a Gaming Platform, It Already Is One

The true measure of any great gaming platform is not the number of games available. Nor is it the need to have the same games as other competing platforms (the Playstation 4 doesn’t need Mario games to be considered successful). And it really isn’t even about how many total games are sold, though that certainly helps.

No sir. It is far more nebulous and subjective than any of that.

The measure of a great gaming platform is if people want to play games on it… rather than another platform. At least on occasion.

Google May Face Android Antitrust Investigation in Europe, Says Reuters

The European Commission is preparing an antitrust case against Google’s Android platform, sources have told Reuters. Regulators have allegedly sent questionnaires to telecom companies and phone manufacturers, trying to get a sense of whether Google is strong-arming them into promoting its own services at the expense of competitors. One question is said to ask whether Google had ever said “that it was not in favor of your undertaking manufacturing, marketing, or launching a smart mobile device with your own or a third-party application or service pre-installed or set as default.” Other questions asked for information about how revenue was shared with Google and whether other app stores had difficulty competing with Google Play, and…

Powered by Fujitsu, and built with Linux servers, the purpose-built Atacama Compact Array (ACA) Correlator supercomputer system process images from the array, which was constructed on the Chajnantor plateau at 5,000 metres altitude, near Llano de Chajnantor Observatory in Chile.
